Thermal insulation means adding materials that slow the movement of heat between the inside and the outside of a building. Timing and emergencies
Insulation is never an emergency, but it is often done at the wrong moment. The right time is before decorating or remodelling, and never over a wall that still lets water in or has active mould. If dark patches appear in a cold corner, deal with the damp and the ventilation first: insulating over a wet wall only hides it.

Is insulation worth it in a mild climate like Madeira?
It is worth it whenever you have condensation, cold walls or rooms that overheat in summer. In higher villages such as Camacha or Santo da Serra the winter comfort gain is obvious. Near the coast the benefit shows up mostly in summer and in less mould.
How do I find an insulation installer on the island?

External or internal insulation?
External insulation performs better, because it wraps the whole façade and removes thermal bridges, but it needs scaffolding and changes the look of the building.
