Home services in Câmara de Lobos: local professionals

Câmara de Lobos starts at a fishing harbour and climbs in terraces up to Jardim da Serra and the valley of Curral das Freiras. Each of those levels asks something different of the people who work on your home.

Photograph of Câmara de Lobos, Madeira

Câmara de Lobos is a municipality on the south coast of Madeira, immediately west of Funchal, made up of five parishes. It combines a dense fishing town at sea level, terraced slopes of vine and banana, and the deep inland valley of Curral das Freiras, enclosed by mountains and reached by a winding road.

The area

In the old core of the town the houses are small and the lanes narrow, which makes vehicle access and removals awkward. In the higher parishes such as Estreito and Jardim da Serra, detached houses with land are the norm, bringing garden work, pruning and roof maintenance. Along the seafront, wind and salt wear through railings, gates and window frames quickly.

Frequently asked questions

Will professionals from Funchal travel to Câmara de Lobos?
Many will, because the municipality sits right next to Funchal and is easy to reach. Even so, name your parish when you post the job: some professionals live and work here and get to you sooner. Check in chat whether travel is charged separately.
Is it hard to get someone out to Curral das Freiras?
The road is good, but it winds and takes longer than the distance on a map suggests. That is why it pays to group several jobs into one visit rather than calling someone out repeatedly. Say so in the job description and the offers you get will be more realistic.
How is work arranged through HomeFix paid for?
You pay the professional directly, on the terms the two of you agree before the work starts. The app takes no commission and no share of the amount. Make clear in chat what is included: labour, materials and travel.
