A plasterer applies and smooths plaster or gypsum finishes onto walls and ceilings so the surface is ready for paint. The work includes rendering new walls, straightening uneven ones, building suspended ceilings and drywall partitions, forming coving and repairing cracks. It is a finishing trade: the quality shows most clearly under low morning light across the wall.

Timing and emergencies
Plastering is rarely an emergency, but the order of the work matters. There is no point plastering a wall that is still letting water in: fix the source first, let the wall dry, then apply the finish. Allow for drying time before painting as well, especially in winter and on the north coast, where the air stays damp for longer.
