Why is water collecting in the bottom of my fridge?
Almost always because the condensate drain hole at the back of the fridge compartment is blocked. You can try clearing it gently and check that the door seal still closes properly. Madeira's humid air produces more condensation, so this fault turns up more often here than in drier climates.
Will topping up the refrigerant fix it?
Only if the leak is found and repaired first. A sealed system does not lose gas on its own, so a recharge without a repair fails again within weeks or months. Always ask the technician to show you where the leak was.
